Synopsis

After surviving a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of her mother and brother, Evangeline made a promise to herself to never go back to the city filled with the memories of her tragic past. But when her estranged father suddenly falls ill, she has no choice but to return to New York and to the life she spent twelve years trying to avoid.

Since the accident, heiress to the multi-billion dollar Montgomery Empire, Evangeline has always feared the media attention that comes with having the Montgomery name and would immediately give it all up if it meant the chance to bring back her loved ones. Delicate and camera shy, the last person she should have on her mind is a type of guy like Ryan Fox.

Witty, extremely arrogant but undeniably good-looking are only a few words Evangeline can use to describe the New York Yankee’s hot-shot. The notorious bad boy― well-versed at playing the game both on and off the field― isn't fazed about the media circus following his every move and couldn't be anymore different to the quiet, shy girl that she is. So, what does a guy like him see in somebody as messed-up as her? And although everything about Ryan screams trouble with a capital T, why can't Evangeline seem to stay away? It's not until they're away from the cameras that Evangeline begins to see the real man hiding behind the cocky facade- one that's hurt and haunted by a dark and terrible secret.

What will happen once Evangeline finds the courage to reveal what really happened on the evening her mother and brother died? And how will she react when she finally learns the truth about Ryan's chilling past? Will baring their deepest secrets bring them closer together or will it tear them apart and have them sliding into darkness all over again?

The Romance Vault's Verdict: ♥♥♥♥ paparazzi flashing hearts.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Firstly I love the cover, the paparazzi lens and flashes in the background with the beautiful Evie in the forefront immediately grabs your attention and draws you in.

The story between Evangline and Ryan rolls along at what I describe as a gentle pace. This isn't a book full of revelations and hold your breath moments. I hate and won't use the word predictable but it's very easy to guess everything as you progress through their story. It's unhurried pace is pleasant but for me a little more action would have taken it up a notch.

Evangline is likeable and although she's a rich heiress she come's across a gentle character, a person that sees good and bad but always errs towards the good. You feel for her straight away with what happened in New York and I have to say what happens further in the book when she is reading was a real tearful moment.  She doesn't flaunt her money but also doesn't hide it either, I feel the author found the perfect way to portray her.

Ryan, ah now Ryan I have to be truthful and say I got a little confused with Ryan's character.  He's projected by the media as a complete womaniser, then when he talks to Evie he says he is not but then mentions strings of one night stands. He says he's never had a girlfriend and only the one night stands but then his family portray him as someone slightly different to that and to give him a chance, he's also contradicted later on in the book too.  Then there was his secret, which I felt wasn't a revelation, it was easy to summise what it was but I didn't mind that at all. There is no denying his easy manner and his audaciousness makes major smile moments throughout, he's easy to relax and enjoy and I was smiling a lot with him as a whole. He's an atheletic mega star baseball player, an 'eight' pack hunk who will have many, many, many of darling readers eating from his hand just like Evie.

There was one character that stuck in my mind and I was drawn to immediately and that was Gabriel, as a secondary character she doesn't star much but when she does her anger, her trauma and her deep seated protective need shine through, I connected with her even though she wasn't nice to Evie when they first met. I felt she had great personality as we saw all her sides, I would love to see her get a book of her own.
